Which camera to choose

You can use many different cameras with the MixUp App. Currently supported are Canon DSLR, GoPro (7, 8, 10, 11, 12), GoPro MAX, Garmin Virb360, and webcams. You can also connect almost any camera through a video capture device, and it will work as a webcam.

Technically, any Canon EOS camera works with the MixUp App. These are our picks for price/quality — good image quality, fast autofocus, and solid video:

  • Canon EOS M50 (USB micro cable)
  • Canon EOS M50 Mark II (USB micro cable)
  • Canon EOS R100 (type-C cable)

For a photo-only setup, consider these, though we recommend switching autofocus off:

  • Canon 1300D (USB mini cable)
  • Canon 2000D (USB mini cable)

You’ll also need a USB cable to connect the camera to your tablet, and it differs by camera. The cable each camera needs is listed above; for other models, check your camera’s documentation for the connector it uses.

  • GoPro 7, 8 Black (Wi-Fi connection only)
  • GoPro MAX (Wi-Fi connection only)
  • GoPro 10, 11, 12 Black (Wi-Fi and USB connection)

We recommend GoPro 10, 11, 12 Black for a 360 booth setup, and GoPro MAX for a “Little Planet booth” setup.

  • Garmin Virb360

Use the Garmin Virb360 for a “Little Planet booth” setup.

We recommend the Logitech BRIO — probably the best option, with good image quality, stable streaming, and fast autofocus. Other price/quality picks:

  • Logitech C920
  • Logitech BRIO
  • Logitech StreamCam
  • Elgato Facecam Pro

Not the most convenient method, but sometimes necessary. Devices that may be suitable:

  • Elgato Game Capture HD60 S
  • AVerMedia Live Gamer Extreme
  • AVerMedia Live Gamer Extreme 2
  • AVerMedia ExtremeCap UVC
  • AVerMedia Live Gamer Ultra GC553

You can easily find these cameras and devices on portals like Amazon, Best Buy, or eBay.
