SMS & WhatsApp

SMS has two ways to work. WhatsApp works exactly the same way — the only difference is the message arrives in WhatsApp instead of as an SMS.

Option 1 — Send-to-self QR (no service needed)

Instead of a service, MixUp can show a QR code with a tag that adds a draft message on the phone that scans it. The link and your text drop into the guest’s own SMS (or WhatsApp) as a message addressed to themselves.

• The guest enters their phone number — the message can only be added “to self,” and it also lets you keep their number for marketing.
• It’s saved on the phone and needs no internet to save the link.
• Why it’s better than a plain QR: a plain QR makes the phone’s browser open the link immediately — which may still be the default redirect page if the content hasn’t uploaded yet. With send-to-self, the guest simply keeps the link and can check it later, once the content has appeared.

Option 2 — Twilio (real messages)

Twilio sends real SMS / WhatsApp messages. You need an active, paid Twilio account. In the account settings enter:

• your Twilio Account SID (secret ID) and token,
• the phone number registered in your Twilio account,

then press Update.

Do it yourself

Enter your Twilio SID and token directly in the app — don’t paste these secrets into documents or chats.

Test it

Press Test, enter the number you want to send to and any text message, and press Send. If everything is correct it sends, and you’ll see it below in the sending queue.

Customize the message (both options)

• Link — choose the uploader link (to the guest’s content) or your own fixed link (e.g. your gallery).
• Text — add a message: thank the guest, mention your promo or event, or anything you like.

Note

WhatsApp is identical to SMS in every way — Twilio delivery and the send-to-self QR both work the same; a send-to-self message is saved in the WhatsApp app if the guest has it installed.
