Canon cameras

Canon is the main photo camera for MixUp. It connects over USB (EDSDK).

  1. Power the camera on and connect it by USB.
  2. Put the camera in the mode MixUp expects (a wrong mode shows a “wrong mode” status).
  3. In Camera settings, the status moves Connecting → Connected.

Canon exposure is set separately for different purposes, so you can tune each one for the best result:

  • Photo exposure — the exposure used for the actual still shot.
  • Video exposure — a separate exposure used when recording video.
  • Live View exposure (manual) — you can enable a manual exposure just for Live View (the preview on the booth screen), independent of the shot.

This is especially useful when you shoot with a flash. The flash lights the actual photo, so the photo exposure is set for the flash — but without the flash firing, the live preview would look dark. By setting a separate, brighter manual exposure for Live View, guests still see a clear image on screen while they get ready, and the flash-lit photo keeps its own correct exposure.

When you shoot video, set the exact resolution and FPS in the program’s video settings to match what the camera is actually recording. Find them on the camera — in its video settings, check the resolution and the FPS — and enter the same values in MixUp.

In the photo camera settings there’s a Take Photo button — press it and the camera takes a shot so you can see how it looks and check your exposure.

Next to it is a timer control: tap it to choose a delay (in seconds) before the photo is taken.

Why the timer helps: if the booth stands some distance from the backdrop and the camera is framed for a full-height shot, you need a moment to step back into frame. Set a delay (say 2–5 seconds), press Take Photo, step back to the backdrop, wait for the shot, then come back and check your exposure at the real shooting distance.

In Camera settings / Camera control you can also set:

  • ISO, Aperture, Shutter — exposure components.
  • Focus and Focus length.
  • Liveview & Preview — show the live view on the booth screen.
  • Camera orientation and Camera framerate.
  • Shutter sound when taking a picture — on/off.
  • Check USB/power, and that no other program (Canon utilities, capture tools) is holding the camera.
  • A “wrong camera” or “empty list” status means MixUp didn’t find the expected device — re-plug and refresh.
  • After a crash, a Canon session may need re-connecting; the booth logs when the connection is restored.
