Connect a DSLR to an iPad

Here’s how to connect a DSLR camera to an iPad in the MixUp Booth.

In this video we use the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, which you can buy at the Apple Store. It lets you stay connected to the camera and to power at the same time. Connect the booth’s USB to the adapter, and the type-C to your iPad. The USB cable inside the booth runs to a USB hub, to which you can connect up to 3 devices.

Then install the camera and connect all its cables. In this video we use a Canon M50, so that’s a USB → mini-USB cable to trigger the camera, plus a fake battery for the M50.

Tip

A fake battery is highly recommended, so you don’t have to change batteries during an event.

You’ll most likely need to charge two devices — the camera and the iPad — so look for a charger with several ports.

The power cable runs from the digital AV adapter to the wall charger, and a second cable runs from the camera to the wall charger. That’s it — you’re ready to go.
